Yup all the big French supermarkets have a fishing section - why not here?

They sure do. Even some of the smaller branches of Super U, Carrefour and Leclerc have a fishing tackle aisle!

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

ah Winfield tackle was the bread and butter of my youth, I can still se ethe tackle now with it's ancient glass partions in Woolworths!

Yes I remember it well and have a few things, mainly the floats, and some other odds and ends.

Winfield stuff does appear on Ebay sometimes but as everything has attracted a little too much attention so the prices have started to increase out of hand sometimes....

Hi, I'm a Newbie and I wanted to pick this Thread up. I picked up 2 (well, actually 3, 1 for a fishing friend) Winfield Bass Fishers. They look absolutely gorgeous and run pretty well. Haven't caught anything on it the once I've used it, but plenty of time yet. Interestingly (or maybe not, depends on your view point) I stripped them down to see what was going on inside. I just so happened to have stripped a Penn Longbeach 60 at the same time and was astonished that the Winfield's were exactly the same inside. I would be interested to hear anyone else's thoughts on the Winfield Reels (or indeed other, Winfield tackle), especially what people have done to customise or just keep them going. Quite taken with them!

Glad this thread got resurrected. Every time I get a new addition to my Woolies Im still amazed at not only the quality but advanced design of the tackle! Remember this gear was for sale in a supermarket during a period when you would have struggled to buy a ready made carp or specimen rod even in top tackle shops!

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

If it hadn't been for Woolies tackle, I probably would not have taken up angling when I was a youngster. My local tackle shop was just too expensive for my pocket money.
