as chappers said, it's not often you shed a tear for someone you never met, but that's what i, and i suspect quite a few other AN regulars are doing right now. you'll be missed alan, but we'll fish with you again in some other place.

sonja, be strong times like this are never easy but you know you have friends who will help you through it, we're all thinking of you

I know we all expected this but it doesn't make it any easier when it comes.

I will spare a thought for you every time I use one of you disgorgers... you will not be forgotten.

Love and a hug to Sonja.

Alan was always ready to help a fellow angler, and the courage he displayed throughout his illness and treatment was an example to us all.

We will miss you Alan, but at least you are beyond pain now.

Our sincere condolences to Sonja, his family, and his many friends.

We have lost a Brother Angler - it hurts.

Really sad news - Alan was a great guy from the day I joined AN a few years back. His friendliness, passion for angling, and sense of humor were just great.

Though I never met him face to face, I exchanged a few emails with him outside of AN and can not say anything other than a great guy and a gentleman ... whos posts on here were a joy to read.

Like everyone on here, Im going to miss Alan. My thoughts to his family and friends.

Sonja, Please accept my heartfelt thanks for ALL you have done for one of the finest ambassadors I have ever had the privilege to meet!!

It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.

If GOD had NOT meant us to go fishing, WHY did he give us arms then??

(If you can't help out someone in need then don't bother my old Dad always said! My grandma put it a LITTLE more, well different! It's like peeing yourself in a black pair of pants she said! It gives you a LOVELY warm feeling but no-one really notices!))

As many of you know, I'm no believer in 'other worlds' but these words seem fitting for Alan,

A FISHERMAN'S EPITAPH , Jack Burns

Please caulk my coffin so it floats,

Then moor it with the fishing boats.

Take pains to see it doesn't leak

As it rides the tides of Dosoris Creek.

I know I'll be contented there

With the sun and sand and salty air.

Put fishing gear inside with me -

What follows death is mystery.

The Lord may let me fish some night,

When the bunker bass begin to bite,

And some small short that I've released

I'll catch full-grown when I'm deceased.

Jack Burns

RIP Alan mate, may your line always be tight..

Jealousy: totally irrational anger directed at people who happen to be richer, prettier, thinner, cleverer and more successful than you are.
