Smoking ban

Are we becoming a nanny state with Big Brother watching ?

You (the UK) already have (and we seem to be headed that way too) so that part of your question is moot.

The smoking ban is interesting to discuss though.

I agree smoking in the presence of children is harmful.

However, on your own in your own car ffs come on.

What next ban FARTING in your own car in case you have to screw up your burning eyes and quickly open a window thus taking your attention off the road.

We are being pushed into boxes...do this don't do that...our own freedoms are slowly being eroded.

IF THEY WANT TO STOP SMOKING THEY SHOULD FCKING BAN IT OUTRIGHT!!! and I don't smoke.

If they did where would they take the millions of pounds they take in taxes from it ??

A helluva lot of money is realised thru smoking/ciggy taxes. A total ban in bars has caused a lot of them to close, so its stated by the brewers, true or not, ? who knows.

I know one thing with the ban is this. It looks terrible when passing a public house and a large group of people are standing having a smoke, i find it very intimidating. And the mess, stinking fag ends all over the place, disgusting, and yes the proprietor is suposed to provide a butt container.

Like it or not, a ban IMHO WILL happen, after all the BMA know whats best for us,

Dave,

Can I roll the window down? Ha ha. Even in the '50's it was cool to be considerate.

My father-in-law died at 92. He was a devoted alcoholic (last thing he was going to need from an open bottle was the cap). When he died my mother-in-law said. "see, I knew that bottle was going to kill him". Mind you his family suffered greatly - mostly economics.

You've all read my "I sold tobacco" story. I'll not repeat it. I will remind you the world's highest per capita consumption of smoking tobacco is Bangkok Thailand. The lowest incidence of lung cancer is Bangkok Thailand.

Smoking with the kids in the car, na, that can't be right. Those of you on 40-60 a day, just stop, ahem, i was on forty and smug me did 15 years ago, no patches, nothing and i won't go back to it. Anyone wants to come around my house and have a fag would be welcomed and i would even find a sort of ashtray or something for them. Regards ex smoker barry who's still kind to smokers. :)

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

Smoking is down to the individuals choice. The government contradict themselves so much, all this anti smoking stuff but the truth is they'd collapse without the revenue it makes.

I smoke a few straights a day. A pack of 10 Lambert & Butler lasts me 3 days or so. Recently though I thought i'd have a break to see if I could, and I went cold turkey for 3 weeks, and hardly wanted one at all. So I'm happier now I know I can take it or leave it, but that's probably down to the small number I smoke per day.

I don't even agree with the smoking ban in pubs and restaurants. If the owner wants it to be a smokers pub/restaurant he makes the choice, and if he loses some non-smoking customers as a result that's up to him. Nobody was making families sit in a smoky room, they had the choice to go somewhere else.

I'm learning to drive but when I pass I don't think i'll smoke in my car, it lingers and I don't really want it like that on the upholstery etc.

As famous fisherman John Gierach once said "I used to like fishing because I thought it had some larger significance. Now I like fishing because it's the one thing I can think of that probably doesn't."

All,

Smoking in the car? Anyone remember the good old "wing windows"?

Barry l,

Don't say that to loudly. I quit for 17 years - had a couple strokes and scared me so bad I started smoking again.

Love to know where you get your figures from Phone.

Thailand comes 72nd in a list of cigarettes consumed per capita

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_count...tion_per_capita

This is an extract from a paper on cancer in Thailand:

http://www.nci.go.th/File_download/Cancer%...0IV/C-II-01.PDF

"In Bangkok, lung cancer is the

most important cancer of men, followed by cancers of the liver & bile

duct, and then the colon & rectum."

Some interesting smoking related statistics:

I don't smoke and if you come to my house neither will you ;)

Sportsman,

I have no idea any longer (maybe never). This was 1976. Somewhere in the far East I heard that (repeated many times). My sponsor was British Tobacco Co and I was selling "Western American" (cowboy) tobacco throughout the Pacific Rim.

Frankly, after briefly reading, I still believe my "stuff" equal to, or to a greater extent, than yours.

I'll tell you why. At that time in Bangkok life expetancy was 54-55. Not enough time for lung cancer.
