They've finally done it.

I realise going into a smoke laden pub can be obnoxious to non smokers but you like smokers have a choice.

As a non smoker I have been deprived of the pleasure of going into a pub, because I am no prepared to take the risk of passive smoking. Plus the disgusting smell doesn't give me a choice either.

It will be interesting to see if any pubs bring in the non smoking ban early. If they do in my area they will get my business.

JD Wetherspoons bans smoking in all their pubs next month. I really hope that the ban doesn't result in the ethos of all pubs becoming like Wetherspoons; it's Starbucks with beer.

Purely out of interest, why would they?

I work in a non-smoking environment and the firm's insurance policy is costed accordingly. Breaking the no-smoking rule is considered gross misconduct - because it compromises the entire insurance cover - and anyone doing it risks dismissal.

Is smoking really that important to you, DJM?

No smoking is not important to me, i just can't stop but i'l keep trying untill i do, i'm down from 20cigars a day to just 5, i should be a passive smoker withing 5 yrs ;)

(and i don't smoke my cigars in the pub, i would class that as taking the pee)

As for breaks, i was under the impression that by law you are entitled to a break every 4 hours, i can either continue to smoke in the (empty) car park or they can provide me with a break so i can smoke around the corner off site!

Cheers

As an ex nuclear submariner I'd love to know how they're going to play that one six weeks into a 'trip'....Tee hee.

i think that submarines are one of the very few exceptions, but don't quote me on that :schmoll:

Smokers pay a disproportionate amount of taxes, mainly to support the NHS. Since this is an inequity to smokers, it's only right to order mandatory smoking in bars and pubs as compensation. Bar patrons not smoking should be charged a fine - say £5 or so per infraction, to be used for free smokes for regular patrons.

couldnt they just employ smokers as staff ,any second hand smoke would then maybe tide the staff over for longer thus stopping them from smoking so much and instead of customer buying you a drink cadging a fag could be the norm, save money ,save your liver, damn that wont work smoke less fags drink less drink pay less tax ,what was i thinking
