This is the start 2 surgerys running side by side £145 to see your GP take it as you want .

So the poor man who just gets by waits 2 weeks for an appointment ?

The funny thing about NHS GPs is that they have never been nationalised. They have been private businesses since the NHS was set up. And you have always been able to use private GPs which don't work for the NHS at all. The odd thing about the surgery in the link is that they have set up a paid for practice to treat people from other surgeries. The NHS rules say they can't charge their own patients, but there has never been a ban on doing paid work for other people's patients.

It's £50 in jersey and silly money in the states how long before it's mandatory here correct me if I am wrong don't those GPS actually work for the NHS

And if you are in that surgery unwell and can't afford the £145 how will those patients feel ..

They are self employed and they are just expanding their business. Don't see the problem myself, as long as it doesn't interfere with their NHS duties. If you don't want to use the service no-one is making you.

Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be.

Does it conjure up visions of divided waiting rooms, with one side patients sipping cocktails while sitting in comfy armchairs. While the other side sit on hard benches, next to a broken window where the wind howls through? Is that how you see it Paul? The article leans towards that idea.

This quote suggests to me that maybe the private clinic is being used to possibly subsidise the NHS one.

Dr Alder said the private clinic was the only way he could guarantee his NHS clinic wouldn't be forced to close

We already are all paying (at least those of us who pay taxes are) it may be free at point of use but it certainly isn't free overall.
