Thats me, If a nipper wanted to try one out I dought if the world would end If the line is of a exepterble qaulity and the hook is the same , you are argueing the toss over What exactly a fancy hand line no harm in that surley

Someone once said to me "Dont worry It could be worse." So I didn't, and It was!

Sorry Rabbit but since about the only angler agreeing with you is gozzer in sarky mode i think it is you that looks the plonker.

Don't be daft, this toy has no place in angling.

I should know better but I am surprised that a few on here think it does

Mind you it is the few that I thought would support it..apart from Hembo maybe..but he does like a joke

give it a rest rabbit, everyone else can see this for what it is and thats a bit of fun for children.

im still waiting on your explenation on why it does not belong in angling and "Because it is not a proper rod" is an invalid argument.

im assuming you dont have kids ? if im wrong im sorry but you probably dont understand the appeal of such a thing, if all kids were like kens grandson i wouldnt need to get my nephew one so i can enjoy some quality time with him. no matter what you say it wont change my mind over the matter, your trying to flog a dead donkey here

how do you do it ken ? usualy declyn is the one to call it quits after 2 minutes. he cant sit still or keep his attention on something long enough :D

rocket rod will keep his attention for a whole day i predict so will introduce him in to fishing with rabbits proper rod

Right I guess it's time I had a serious go on this one. :)

It shoots the line out, does anyone know how far?

Is there any control over distance?

Would it inflict any damage if fired accidently at a persons face?

If the price reduction is anything to go by it is not exactly flying out Price: £8.69 You Save: £21.30 (71%) that is one hell of a saving even by Woollies current standard

30ft

not sure ill need to test that

probably would but would a proper rod inflict damage if accidently hooked on someones face or poked in the eye with a proper rod tip

its christmas

Whilst not wanting to appear to be a killjoy, especially at this time of year, I have to agree (sort of, just a bit, kind of....) with Rabbit.

Used sensibly, under adult supervision, then I imagine they'd be great fun, and could help introduce kids to angling in a fun and simple way. However, the "adult supervision" is the important bit. Without someone to guide the kids this is aimed at as to the rights and wrongs of playing, landing, handling and releasing fish safely, then they could be a recipe for disaster.

In the wrong hands they could easily be a menace, much as the "fishing poles" and lures that were recently on sale in our local Poundland store. Having had a quick Google, I haven't found one site that makes any mention of fish welfare.

Andy, it sounds as though you've had a brilliant time with them, but then you also appear to be one of the sensible ones....unlike Norrie, who appears to have no concept of beer can welfare....honestly...introducing a Coca Cola can into a shoal of beer cans is just a no-no!!! The risks of inter breeding and cross contamination don't bear thinking about!

Janet

PS. I've just ordered one - my double barrelled pump action water pistol keeps freezing up, and it seems like a good alternative to deter the neighbourhood cats from pooping in my garden!

Yes anything in a kiddies hand with hooks are lethal and require 100% guidance.

Now don't get me wrong on this but if it is spring loaded the potential for a mishap is far greater than a rod.

There are a lot of toys out there which I would not buy my grand children purely on safety grounds.

If the thing fires thirty feet dragging line it must go off at quite a pace.

Then again there is the age thing, it may suit a ten or twelve year old but not a six or seven year old.

And remember you can take a horse to water but you cannot make him drink, maybe sitting on a river bank is not going to appeal to the lad.

Totally true - but kids near water need 100% supervision anyway.

Nothing wrong with these in my mind, and if they get kids introduced to fishing then it's all good in my books. After they've had a play with these, they can then move up to real rods and reels etc...

understandable.

as for the springs, they are all consealed under that grey hood on top and the rest of the mechanism is actualy a reel enclosed in tough plastic so chances of things flyin off are minimal. only time will tell if it was a mistake or blessing. he does like to go out fishing with me and hes caught a fair few fish but interest levels drop after half an hour i hope this will extend it to perhaps 2 hours.

oh yeah i never seen him so happy when he pulled in his first massive dace about 1lb :D but alas after that 30 minutes passed and he wanted to go home after a 2 hour drive!!!

If I've read the 'blurb' right, the hook is contained in the 'float'/projectile thing, and only released when it hits the water.

I hope you have better luck than I did with my son Andy, his attention lasted as long as the food (both his and mine) did.

The cat idea of Janets? Mmmmm, possibilities. :g:

John. (in non sarky mode)

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John
