Sportsman - Your take on Africa is typical of the people that hear stuff on the news and say "it must be true - it's on the BBC!!!"

Firstly trying to stop blacks breeding is like trying to teach a mosquito to sit up and beg!! The African Culture (throughout Africa) is based on respect of the elders, When a young African gets a wife (or wives) they then proceed to make as many sprogs as possible, as they rely on the younger Africans to look after them when they are old! They don't have a pension system - the kids are his pension and the more kids he has, the better he will be treated when he is old!!

 

What did the Africans do BEFORE the western world started throwing MONEY at them??? I have worked there and had to deal with the "procurers" (they want their cut before you can see anyone who is authorised to buy!!).

How much of the money given to "help the poor" in Africa reaches them - I'll tell you - PRECIOUS LITTLE!!!

People have gone to great pains to have wells built, schools built, improvements made - my answer to this is make un unplanned visit to see how these improvements have been used.

The wells are used as toilets, the scools for teaching the koran and improvements have been torn dow because they were made of wood and wood is a fuel!

To say that we should stop sending aid to Africa because Mugabe is corrupt is like saying Gordon Brown must go (hmmmm, not a bad idea at that) because the government of Kazakhstan is a bit iffy.

 

A nice comparison. Your going to struggle in this one, so many bloody experts on all 60 odd countries, who are eager to show why we shouldn't send aid.

So "my take" on Africa, as far as I can recall was that it consisted of lots of countries. I may well have heard it on the news or possibly read it in a book, but I suspect it's true.

My "experience" of Africa includes living and working in Nigeria, Angola, Chad, Sudan and Libya and has little to do with the BBC.

Your account of why many Africans have a lot of children is based upon fact and is similar to the reason why Victorians in this country had large families, the horrendous child death rate from starvation and disease. If people could be assured that there was a reasonable chance that their children would survive childhood they may be persuaded to pay more attention to "wise" white men like yourself.

 

BTW, when did you make an unplanned visit to see how improvements have been used.

Schools in Muslim countries (that is SOME of the countries in Africa, by no means all of them) may well teach the Qu'ran,(well, I'm polite enough not to call your holy book the Bybal) why wouldn't they?

How do you know that wells are used as toilets, did you hear it on the BBC and think "that must be true, I heard it on the BBC.

Do you know, I don't know why I bothered to go to the trouble of saying that because you won't read it, and if you do you won't understand it. I am willing to give most people on here the benefit of the doubt but draw the line with you.

No they don't unlike you...... add the state pension, subsidised rent, heating, free transport, free health care, education, civil amenities, a longer life, clean water, a police force to protect you, an elected government to work for you, more than enough food, running water, sewage disposal, and much more.

And yet you cry to us that ''Charity Begins At Home''... so you want the African Aid do you to make your lot a bit easier?

For what it's worth. This thread is contentious because your compairsons are to a proper England. Much of what you say is "at fault" in Africa we have/had in the US less than 100 years ago. If there is one thing all (?) countries in Africa have going for it is this. They don't have 70 million people stacked in an area the size of our 5th smallest state, New Jersey. Africa has a a chance. How we promote an acceleration into the 21st century is, of course, debatable but certainly not predestined.

Any validity that your point of view may have had (and it did have at least some) has just been blown out of the water by what is a crass and offensive statement.

You deny being a racist (though we all are to some extent) and although you may not walk the walk, you can certainly talk the talk.

Not "The indiginous African's that I've encountered", just "blacks" - all of them ! Is that what you really meant ?

And why the offensive animal reference ? Why not simply point out that large families with no limitation on the number of children produced is the norm ?

I find this piece of simplistic uneducated trash considerably more offensive than Emma's remark.

At least hers had the merit of being accurate.
