After a certain age, if you don't wake up aching in every joint, you are probably dead.

If there were so few fish that the club members couldn't catch them, presumably the otters have starved?

This whole otter thing is a non-issue. They are a native species, they eat fish. Live with it.

End of story.

The funny (not really) thing is this (yes sorry Ken, but predominantly carp killed by...........fill in the blank) issue has been going on for years. Before the otters moved in to eat all of the fish it was mink that were getting the blame for doing it. The photos of dead carp haven't changed since either!

I Googled dead carp to see the lists of carp killed by otter pictures...........it seems that otters are falling well behind various carp diseases, cold weather, pollution etc. Mustn't forget the super healthy record caught (appropriately enough by somebody called Slaughter) that died shortly afterwards. Obviously it couldn't possibly have been as a result of being caught by an angler, it probably choked on an otter!

The fact remains that the majority of people moaning about otters are still water carp anglers (sorry Jeff).

Norfolk Rob, that was an interesting link about the Wensum, it seems there is a much bigger problem than native predators eating the stocked fish on the Wensum. Why on earth call for mores stocking if the fry aren't surviving? Attend to the issue, don't blame things that aren't the problem. The Wensum is not suitable for barbel, they can't breed successfully!

Oh well, perhaps the sea eagles will pick off the otters! :)

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

You would think that the occupants of Angling Trust Towers would be able to hear the sound of nails being knocked into coffins :)

They probably think it's woodpeckers hammering on the heads of carp........mark my words, nothing's safe

I agree. There's less than 4000 otters in the whole of England and Wales. We're hardly overrun with them!

White tailed sea eagles are amazing. Saw a couple of the Isle of Skye - my god they're BIG! A sleepy angler may be picked off, let alone an otter!

An interesting article! The penultimate paragraph is enlightening.

In light of Worms' post, just to flag up the sources for some of my previous comments - please see below:

Just so it's clear it's not just my opinion.
