Otter

I notice that a chap called Bob Roberts is getting a bit worked up on Facebook regarding otters. He seems to have started a little anti-predator page. He has removed (or had it removed) his website possibly to get some facts right but the support for controlling anything that looks at a fish (except other fish of course) is winding quite a few 'anglers' into a lather!

Methinks this needs nipping in the bud, constant references to the otter re-introductions (none since 1999) comparisons, with the effect that non-native species have etc. is all a bit excessive...not to mention inaccurate and misleading. A lot of the anti otter stuff on the web and social networking sites is so inaccurate that I fear a backlash from tree-hugging extremists...or maybe just normal folk who are going to get incenced about this crap! The English Carp Defence League for a start, bloody hell, undesirable political overtones or what?

I don't think he's too keen on Sharkbyte either!

I'm not on facebook, and don't seem to be able to see Bob Roberts Blogs, (maybe my protection is better at filtering out the crap than I thought :D ).

What's Wayne done to deserve the attention Nick? Not heard from him for ages.

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

I don'tknow that he's done anything John, except criticise the chap's page and his rather strange ramblings..now he's posted a thread about Wayne claiming that he (Wayne) is killing carp and if he's seen to inform the authorities!

I hope the guy's got a good solicitor B)

I criticised Roberts' Blog page as inaccurate and misleading. Shortly after it disappeared from the web...perhaps he's looking a bit deeper into the 'facts'

Well, now all of the threads that I and Wayne criticised him in have been removed....what a shame that people don't have the courage of their convictions...or admit when they're wrong... also looks as if I'm persona non grata as well now, I can't post on his wall anymore..

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

What a bright and brave chap he is. I'm so glad he has the courage to say what we're all thinking.

Once he's shot all the otters, I hope he kicks all the kingfishers to death, the theiving blue and orange scum.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

I had a reply from my MP (who I wrote to when that petition for killing otters went up on the No10 site, in order to ensure that it was realised that we aren't all insane) confirming that there are no plans for culling, that the legal protection for otters is strong and that it is hoped there will be a full recovery of otter populations in England over the next 30 years.

thats because your a bad man. :)

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

Well credit where it's due, I read the whole thing and I have to say part of it did really get me thinking...what is the best bankstick?

The rest of it was crap, unfortunately.

Edit - I just read the responses too. I see the windrush and Evenlode get a mention as usual! I suggest that if bob Roberts can't catch a chub from these rivers, otters are the least of his problems! He goes on about mink a lot and their effect on the watervoles, which is all true. Someone should point out what effect natural otter populations have on the non-native mink...e.g. on the windrush...

The piece as a whole reads a bit like an angry pinball machine.
