I'd also be interested in why you chose the one you did. It's always interesting to read the perceptions of folks who are not on the scene and not directly involved.

Newt,

I voted (in the poll) - I'm very liberal on social issure although I ascribe to a lot more fiscal responsibility than we are seeing on both sides of the isle. BTW I've swapped horses. I was an outspoken and hard worker for Barry Goldwater in '64.

You may have to remove my vote as I'm very much directly involved.

It seems from the ‘outside’ perspective of some of us that many US voters will vote against Obama, rather than for Rumney , one might say, '‘well there you are then anything/one is better than our current president.' Yet it is well worth noting that Obama has had only 4 years to resolve the problems of 8 years of republican power. Even within political circles, notably congress, Obama bashing, apparently for it’s own sake has proven unhelpful.

Perhaps there are those who would see a Republican victory as vindication of their own deeply held beliefs, and that is preferable to the core issue of what is good for Americans?

There is plenty of evidence to show that Rumney has turned hopefully towards the uncomfortably vocal extreme right wing of both the Republican party and the wider electorate. It is fair to describe him as a neoconservative, yet one who has only relatively recently turned wholeheartedly towards that political ideology. For example, he supported equality for gays and lesbians yet now proposes to write discrimination into the Constitution! This would allow states to ban gays from adopting children, and impose a whole host or other civil rights restrictions, he's even against civil partnerships. He has U turned his policy on taxation. He used to proclaim that global warming was a result of human actions, but now he's changed his mind on that one too!. He climbed the gun control platform yet now he’s supposedly against it. So the proposition of millions of people voting for a man who they don’t know what he really believes in (because he seems not to himself) to become the most powerful in the world is looming towards us.

Rumney has no experience in high political office, he is a businessman who clearly expresses a belief that the best way to grow the economy is from the top down, analysis of his economic policy suggests significant tax cuts for the wealthy, those making over a million dollars a year would get a 25% cut. He said that he would keep all of the Bush tax cuts, 70% of those cuts to be enjoyed by those making 200,000 dollars or more per year. To pay for this Romney would need to cut millions of dollars from part of the budget that finances education, job training and even medical research. the deepest cuts in modern times. Those would be the biggest financial cuts any nation could suffered, ever! Pure businessmen have a history of not being especially successful presidents. For example, Clinton, who created the most jobs of any president, had no prior business experience. Even old Ron Reagan, an actor, presided over significant economic expansion. One the other hand The two presidents from the strongest business background, Hoover and George W. Bush won’t go down in history as icons of financial expansion.

Most of the above threatens and concerns America and Americans, yet we all should know by now that when there is social and fiscal discontent in the land of the free, that the whole globe is likely to suffer, perhaps the presidential voting rights should be extended across the world not just or little fishin’ forum, as what the Americans do impacts upon us all? From an outside perspective a worrying defining feature of US political neoconservatism is the apparent eagerness in order to use military force to impose US foreign policy, even under the by now wearing thin pretence of spreading democracy the irony of which seems to be missed by so many Americans.

Obama. Anyone who believes in the stuff written in the Book of Mormon has a problem with Critical Thinking.

He is not a fit person to be Commander in Chief of the US Military. They very thought of that scares me.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

It's OK Cory, don't worry.

He won't have to actually make any decisions.

He leaves that to the people who paid to get him elected ;)

Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be.

Cut Newt a bit of slack, huh. Newt is a moderator of this forum and he puts a lot of his spare time into running AN. If it were not for Newt and the other mods you wouldn't have a forum to post on.
