que religeous fanatics get out clauses....... :whistling:
It's a strange non-existant god that allows such sorrow through out the world.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

;) sssshhh dont tell the men in dresses.

we have a pair of likable (likable because they only say hello not anything else) persons a few doors away ,they ring the bells i havent the heart to tell them whatever tune it is isnt in the top ten ,they seem happy believing i suppose.

i find it strange though that ringing the bells doesent bend gods ear they never win the village flower show  so i'm at loss to see why they do it such a demanding god that he expects his subjects to prostrate themselves before him but gives nothing in return ,whacko

Like all these silly misguided people who go to Lourdes for a 'cure'. If Jesus could see what is done there in his name he would turn over in his grave. I could understand if a miracle really had happened there, something like a multiple amputee regenerating a new pare of legs or someone being cured from ebola.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

frogs grow back legs and skinks tails i think their gods better.

"seeing" mary in your garden should be a great money spinner methinks even today.

i wonder if theres any statistics for the prayer to miracle ratio god wise ,one could then choose a god on the value for money criteria

should gods be put out to tender ,quotations by yesterday please walking on water is no longer possible under the health and safety rules ,net casting is ok ,smiting obligitary.

whats the virgin rate nowadays for laying down your life in its name?

i think religion should be updated ,

for regular church prostration an ipod

for standing in streets handing out leaflets a psp

bell ringing maybe a 19" monitor etc

lets get real now ,threats of hell or promise of heaven just dont work anymore and fire and brimstone dont work on most sane thinking people today.

perhaps a catalogue with god stamps ,being good to animals gets you five and a graduated scale up to laying down your life ,get enough stamps you get stuff ,seems far better than the old version.

for bad things a scale from smiting downwards through disease ,loss of limbs ,unexpected bills and finishing with a stye in your eye etc. god has to be balanced ya know! you ofcourse have to be informed via letter of these occurrences going to happen 7 days in advance ,cant be put down to just bad luck or fate as in the present system

There was a triple-blind study done into prayer. I think the outcome was that praying to god was about as much use as praying to a bottle of milk. If I can dig it out, i'll post a wee link.

I have faith based on science and past experience that the sun will rise tomorrow morning. I have no faith in a bronze age god.

In reply to earlier comments about

"when I was a kid"
put quite simply things were different.

There are no facts to support the statement that child abduction was rife then, there may well have been some pedophile activity but certainly not on the scale we have today, as a kid of ten I could climb on my bike and ride from Parkstone to Wareham via a country road and was lucky to see a few cars chugging along at a sedate 30mph. Today you have a job to find that road which winds through Petersfinger, the new bypass is like an over filled racing track, ponds we used to visit are gone along with acres of fields, sadly the UK has changed for the worse when it comes to activities for kids. We had youth clubs not just one but several, cubs and scouting on a grand scale, summer school camps. We could go fishing on the river or down to the sea swimming and fishing all in a safe climate.

Things changed as I brought up my two children, school discipline slipped, roads became more dangerous, housing and shopping centers took over from green fields. Nett result I put my two through private education where discipline was still required, and I am not referring to kids being caned etc. but being taught to respect themselves and others. My children did not have the same freedoms as I had we took them every where, we were on constant escort duties because child crime was on the increase.

Today the rules are even tighter you just dare not let your children out of your sight. Most parents make a special effort trying to give their children center platform at all times others are less inclined to sacrifice their

"FREE TIME"
and all to often this has tragic results.

Kids being knocked over by cars and suffering other unnecessary accidents, perverts taking advantage of kids.

The other day I had a tax disc stolen whilst paying for my petrol and leaving the window open on the 4x4, years ago that would have been well up on the crime list today it was case No. DP-20070810-67 and forgotten even though the car dealer next to the garage is known to be one of the biggest crooks in the area.

What makes this case so sad is if the parents had put their children first and themselves second we would not be discussing it on this forum and the sad part is they will not acknowledge that fact.

Hi Ken

Whilst I don't think I would disagree with anything on this thread that you have said regarding the whole McCann mess, I must take issue with one thing.

I will try and dig out a reference to the figures, but I remember reading something in the past year or two that does suggest that the incidence of paedophile activity is no higher now thatn it was in the 1950's. The only thing that appears to have changed is societies awareness of it, and of course the media reporting of it.

Paedophiles have unfortunately been around for a long long time. But the media haven't always been around quite the same as they are now.

and ofcourse they wern't pedo's just "dirty old men" ,"strange" as in my mums description or "funny" (as in peculiar not laughs).

unfortunately the crime of killing kids (ofcourse not all pedo's kill but the kid has a life sentence so why not treat it as murder)has now been downgraded ,the moors murderers got real life not modern life whether hinkly? and the other one will end up with real life depends how stupid the parole board is.

i hate they way they get light sentences because their brief tries the sympathy bit on the jury ,the poor person was "abused" himself or he came from a broken home or he was from a poor family ,i wouldnt let it influence me if theve been "abused" in the past then they know whats its EFFING like so double the sentence

and theres plenty of emotionally stable kids and adults from broken homes poor or rich so thats balls too! just bloody excuses
