As for the rest of us, I think we are going to be told we have secured a good deal, so we should stay in. A great danger of the great British public being stampeded into a "stay in" vote.

 

My own view is that Cameron had asked for too little, and after "compromise" will come back with a bit less - it would mean a massive shift of terms and conditions to persuade me to stay in.

Makes you wonder whether other leaders are deliberately frustrating him to bolster the chances of a British exist and consequent implosion of the EU because although they want out too, they don't feel that they can push for withdrawal openly.

Nothing would surprise me.

 

Every country is in the EU for what they can get out of it. Nothing more, nothing less, there's certainly nothing altruistic about it.

 

It seemed obvious to me back in the 70s that you would never get the six countries of the EEC to agree anything sensible without a fudge.

 

How could adding another twenty two countries possibly make it any easier.
